This long-distance shot is taken from the beach at Ft. Stevens State Park in Warrenton, Oregon. The view is towards the southern breakwater at the mouth of the Columbia River. Two bulk freighters are crossing the river bar, known as "The Graveyard Of The Pacific" because of the numerous ship disasters that have occurred here over the decades. Since 1792, approximately 2000 ships have sunk in this area of the Pacific Northwest Coast. The narrow channel and treacherous river bar require careful and skilled pilots to get the ships over the bar, inbound and outbound.
