I took this picture while I was on a trip to the swamps in Texas. I was in a photography school and took the picture as one of my projects.Time
I took this picture in the morning around 9:00 A.M. I had intended to get a picture earlier when the lighting would have that nice golden look. It took longer than I expected to find my bird so I got the picture a little late.Lighting
I got lucky on the light this time because some clouds covered the sun. That caused a soft even light to be cast on my subject without harsh shadows.Equipment
I shot with a Nikon D610 using a 70-300mm lense. I did not have a tripod or any other equipment.Inspiration
I have always loved nature photography and wanted to take my own nature photos that I could use for a gallery. I was in Texas so figured I could find a lot of really cool birds in the swamps. When I found this bird I crawled through the brush until I was within range and waited for a perfect shot.Editing
The only post processing I did was to increase the exposure by a 1/4 stop.In my camera bag
I always have my 24-85mm Nikor with me because I can use it for most of my pictures. To go with that I also carry my 70-300mm lense for close up work and nature photography. The last piece I always carry is a tripod. I have decided that if you can use the tripod it is define tiltly worth the effort to carry.Feedback
Get up early! Animals, especially birds, are almost always most active in the early hours of the morning. I like to get out before the sun comes up. That allows me to be in position before the animals are. Also you need a fast shutter speed if you can get it to prevent blur. Most birds will not sit still for a good picture!
