Location
This photo was taken in my living room :) I don't have a studio, I mostly do landscape photography and for the few portraits I take I have to be creative :)Time
It was taken in the afternoon but since it's a indoor shot it really matter that much...Lighting
I made the room as dark as possible to have a black drop off. To light the model I used only one flash inside a Softbox.Equipment
For this shot I used a Canon 5D MkII with a Canon 85mm 1.8 USM. One flash inside a softbox mounted on a tripod.Inspiration
I was inspired by the mexican holiday "dia de los muertos" and I wanted to do a protrait with this theme for sometime. I asked a work colleague to pose for me and my wife did the makeup.Editing
There was no need for to much post-processing. Just some minor light adjustments. In my camera bag
For portraits I use my Canon 5D MkII and the Canon 85mm 1.8 USM. A very sharp lens that is cheap and light, easy to use and carry.Feedback
For portraits you have to be creative and use what you have around you if you don't have a studio. Ask your friends to pose for you and get used to photographing people. It can be difficult at first. Experiment with light and different positions. You can get various results using the same gear just by moving the light.
