Secretary bird (Sagittarius serpentarius)

Etosha, Namibia

A truly spectacular bird with a popular name I have never understood.

This is a threatened species, and even though it is protected in Etosha, I encountered very few of them there and treasured every one of them as this is a truly amazing looking bird.

The long feathers on top might seem absent until a gust of wind flushes them out as seen here.
