Location
The photo was taken during a hiking tour in the Swiss mountains. As this was one of my first real wildlife photos, it was a lucky shot from the ground up.Time
At the time of the shot it was late afternoon. The weather was slightly cloudy. A thunderstorm front was approaching but still in sufficient distance.Lighting
Since this was shot spontaneously and with little experience in manual camera mode, I am surprised to this day that the exposure in the dark weather conditions was sufficient to capture the marmot in its hole.Equipment
This was taken with the Canon EOS 70D and an EFS 18-135mm lens.Inspiration
After about 3 hours of hiking in cloudy weather and many metres of altitude behind me. I heard a marmot whistle and immediately tried to photograph it, but unfortunately I wasn't fast enough and it disappeared into its hole in the ground. Then I took a break and sat lurking in front of the hole with my camera and lens. When the marmot looked out after a few minutes, I managed to take this shot.Editing
Yes, in general, the whole image was brightened and, of course, cropped nicely in the centre. In my camera bag
In the times when the picture was taken, only a camera and lens were needed.Feedback
Take photos and take more photos Every chance you get, unpack your camera and try something new. Especially for this picture, of course, you need a suitable location, preferably a meadow with a slope so as not to cast a shadow. A moderately curious animal and of course a portion of luck. Also enough patience and distance so as not to stress or frighten the animal unnecessarily.
