Such a nicely softened, abstract quality to this photo.

Behind The Lens

Location

In my garden! I love gardening almost as much as photography, so I'm always looking for interesting things to photograph in my garden :)

Time

Around midday.

Lighting

It was an overcast day, which helped to produce the soft light you see in the picture :)

Equipment

I used a Nikon D3200 DSLR camera with a Nikkor 18-55mm lens and Hoya +1 and +4 magnifier filters.

Inspiration

The shape of the Agapanthus bud, and the way the florets were starting to emerge from the bud. I saw a beauty in this Agapanthus bud on the verge of flowering and had to photograph it! I took the photo close-up to capture the detail of the florets fighting to burst from the bud and into the sunlight :)

Editing

I didn't actually do a great deal of post-processing besides adjusting the lighting and contrast a little bit. The background is untouched, I was lucky enough to have a good background at the time of taking the photo (a fence!)and the photo was close enough to blur most of it out naturally.

In my camera bag

Nikon D3200 DSLR camera, a set of Hoya +1, +2, +4 magnifier filters . A Nikkor 18-55mm lens and a Sigma 70-300mm lens with lens hood. A Kenko polarizer filter, a gray card, and spare SD card.

Feedback

Look closely in your garden or any garden for that matter (with permission if needed) You will be surprised at all the interesting and unique shapes, colours and textures you can find. Mother Nature creates some truly fascinating things!:) Pick the time of day and lighting wisely, I shot on an overcast day which creates softer lighting.
