I love this. It's almost as if you can see what the horse is seeing. Great detail.

Location
This was taken just around the corner from my house. I live in a village and it's semi-rural, the horses are in a field about 30 metres away!Time
It was taken at about 10.30 on a cold January morning. I'd been after a shot of the frost and needed to be quick because my fingers were so cold!Lighting
It wasn't an especially bright day but there was enough light for what I wanted, and I didn't want anything being reflected in the eye.Equipment
I had a 35mm macro lens on the camera as I had originally been intending to shoot some close-up frost patterns as the morning was so cold. No tripod or flash were used - the horse came over to see me over the fence as I was heading home and it made me change my thinking and forget about the frost!Inspiration
I love horses and love their expressive and beautiful eyes. I had already taken many shots of different horses but not with a macro lens as I had only just bought mine two weeks before this shot was taken. I wanted to get the detail of the actual eye without catching my own reflection in it and wanted to capture the horse's view without me appearing at all! I was also keen to capture the soft nature of the horse and had a wide aperture so it would throw a softer focus on the rest of the picture.Editing
I cropped this and boosted saturation to bring out the different brown tones. In my camera bag
I normally carry a 35-70mm kit lens, a 70 - 300mm zoom, a 50mm prime and a 35mm macro - these usually cover most of my needs when I'm out and about. I also usually carry a monopod.Feedback
I was lucky that this was such a friendly horse. I had to get up close to its eye since my macro lens is only 35mm! It didn't seem to mind as long as it got plenty of attention! Maybe a longer lens would be advisable for anyone trying something similar as you can never tell with animals how they'll react! I was just lucky!
