You captured such an intimate moment and it turned out beautifully. I love the rays of sunshine and how the background is blurred and your subjects are in focus just perfectly. Great shot! Congratulations!

Location
I took this photo in a dry wash (code name for dry creek bed) near Valentine, Arizona. Both sides of this wash were lined with huge cottonwood trees.Time
This image was taken during the golden hour just as the sun was going down. The light was being filtered through the cottonwood trees as it set for a nice, soft, back lit look.Lighting
This image, like 99.9% of my other work was shot using ambient, available lighting. No reflectors or strobes were used in the making of this image. The back lighting was created as the setting sun filtered through the cottonwood trees and onto my subjects.Equipment
I used my Canon 5D Mark III and 200mm F-2.0L to capture this image.Inspiration
As the mother of 10 children, I have always enjoyed capturing images of children, and even more so, the loving bonds between a mother and her child. Mary (the mother in this photo) is a beautiful young mom that I have been photographing for a few years now. I did her high school senior pictures, maternity pictures, newborn pictures, along with a few creative shoots in between. The weather was beautiful this day and the fall colors were in full bloom at this location (one of my very favorites) so I shot her a message and asked if she was up for a few pictures with her baby boy. :)Editing
I do all of my basic RAW edits in Lightroom 5 - exposure adjustments, color, white balance, noise removal, and sometimes I'll even do a few brush adjustments to selectively fix color casts or add a subtle vignette. All of my color popping/modifying and contrast comes in Photoshop CS6 through the use of several different adjustment layers (levels, curves, selective color, etc).In my camera bag
I carry a LOT of stuff with me - more than what will fit in just one bag. I never use it all but it always seems to happen that the ONE lens I want while I'm out shooting is the one I left at home - so now I just bring it all! That would include my 5D Mark III and 5D Mark II as a backup body, 200L, 70-200L II, 100 Macro, 90 TS, 85L, 50L and Sigma 50 Art lens, and my 16-35L II. I am primarily a natural light shooter but also always carry my 580EX II, white reflector, umbrella, and PWII transcievers with me, just in case.Feedback
First and foremost - before any thought to equipment or location, you HAVE to have a good repertoire with your clients. Without that, there will be no real impact with your images. Always make sure that your subjects are comfortable in front of your camera. Next and equally important, you HAVE to have good lighting. I love using soft, filtered back lighting as it gently separates my subject(s) from the back ground. To avoid haze and sun flare, make sure that the light is low in the sky and being filtered through something (cottonwood trees in this case), OR make sure the light is coming in at a slight angle and not directly into your lens. For even better background separation, shot with a long lens and make sure there is a good amount of distance between your subject and the background. Both of these elements play into your depth of field. This image was also shot wide open at F-2.0 which enhanced the bokeh even more. Watch your details! Make sure everything is in place before clicking the shutter - hair, clothing, framing elements in the background, etc. Then, sit back and wait - be patient and provide gentle guidance to your subject/client to bring out what you are hoping to achieve in your photograph. In this image, I simply asked Mary to interact with her baby. With patience and a few solid preparations in setting up your shot, magic will happen!
