It's wonderful that you did not follow the golden mean, adds surprise. The texture in the background is perfect, it elevates the scene. Silhouettes are tough, it means you have to think harder about your lines, and you have done that.

Location
I took this photo just outside of Medicine Hat, AB., Canada. As I rounded the corner of the grid road I was on, there they were, standing all majestic on the hillside. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a few shots as I found it hard to direct my gaze elsewhere.Time
Early evening.Lighting
All natural.Equipment
Nikon D200 with a Sigma DC 18-200mm lens.Inspiration
The entire scene was what inspired me to take this photo. It was beautiful!Editing
I never did any post-processing with this other than a little play with contrast. In my camera bag
I usually have my D200 now for back-up but am shooting now with a D7000. I also have my Sigma 18-200 lens as well as my Nikon Macro lens and various filters. I have much more on my wish list however, there's always something!Feedback
As this is a pretty straight forward image, using all natural lighting, my only advice for taking something along these lines, would be to use a tripod and be patient, especially if your subject(s) is an animal. Come early evening the lighting changes quickly, so spending some time and experimenting with it is always a good idea.
