" OCEAN DRIFTING " Always wanting to challenge myself when it comes to water photography. With this shot the Above & Below was my choice of preference. To me this is what perspective means to me. Putting my subject in two totally different worlds is such a wonderful glance into what can be done with a bright imagination.

Location
I took this Image on a small tropical Island in Fiji. The location is Called Sunset Beach.Time
I remember waiting for the afternoon light. I scouted this beach out during the morning hours but I wanted to make this more of a mood type photo with some beautiful warmth to add to my subject. I remember having to hike a bit to get to this sandy beach so that I would be facing the sunset. It was slight off shore breeze just enough to create a bit of motion on the surface of the ocean since my priority was an above and below type shot. I was in the water with my subject around 3:00pm waiting the light to change. This final shot was taken going on 4:30pm.Lighting
Interesting enough I positioned my subject just to the side of the sun allowing enough light to sweep across my subjects face. Keeping my camera steady above and below the surface I was able to use the light evenly throughout my composition and create a sense of mystery in my foreground. The warmth of the water and air was almost even making it a true tropical feeling in my image.Equipment
I selected to use my Nikon D300s with a wide angle 10.5 f/2.8 Secured in my Aquatech Water Housing. With a 8in Dome port.Inspiration
I'm very passionate about water photography in general.I was inspired by wanting to bring others into my image and share with me my passion for what I love most.Editing
Well being the digital world we are, unlike the film days of the past. Photoshop is the tool I used. I always make a visual in my mind of the true colors before I start shooting any photo. This way when I do finally drop into Photoshop I will not add anything that wasn't there, basically staying true to the actual image that you see before you. My selections are basic, Levels, Healing brush for any dust marks, and Contrast. In my camera bag
In my bag I have the following equipment: Nikon D4 Nikon 810 Nikon 7100 Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 / 70-200mm VR 2 F/ 2.8 / 50mm F/1.4 / TAMRON 11-16 F/2.8 / 400mm F/2.8Feedback
Firstly, this will require a solid water housing: I use Aquatech Housings and Highly recommend this. Reason why, well it's simple, protect your equipment! Thousands of dollars go into your camera and lens. So don't just but your camera in one of those plastic water housings. Results are brilliant once you do invest the right way. Be a good Swimmer, Understand your light not just above the surface but below. Find a subject that loves water as much as you do,Very Important! And finally be patient because working in water is way different than land and requires a real understanding of movement . Just imagine taking a photo on a ship rocking back and forth. The water is really no different . I must of shifted several positions before composing this shot. Currents and tides both are a big factor in all this.
