Watching the sun go down from a keyhole opening in an iceberg that had fractured off from the glacier at Jokulsarlon lagoon and settled on the beach. This place is a photographers dream because you have hundreds of new compositions every day as the ice comes and goes with the tides.

Generally I am not a big fan of framed shots, personally I think they rarely work. This does work really well, good photo Jamie.

Great Capture. Looking forward to getting to Iceland soon for these opportunities.

Wow, very pretty. I really like this shot, the sunset gives it the little bit of color it needs. Great job!

Fantastic! Incredible light! Did you use some kind of fill light in the cave? Just beautiful! :)

This photo was taken at jokulsarlon beach , across the bridge from the lagoon in IcelandTime
We had spent the day driving from Vik, stopping along the way and ending up at Jokulsarlon for sunset. We had arrived 3 hours before sunset to check out the area for compositions. When i first stepped on the beach, it was a bit of overload to my photography senses. Every which way you look there is a different composition thanks to the ice. I got set up and started shooting. 5 minutes later i look to my right, rush over there start shooting there. This went on for quite awhile. I had found what i thought was a great shot for sunset, the only problem is that it was an hour away still. In this environment the tide comes up and throws the ice around and suddenly that great piece of ice is gone. With about 45 minutes left until sundown I looked across to the beach on the other side of the bridge and realized that literally tons of ice had just bent spit out over there. We hopped in the camper van and headed over. As i walked up i saw this gorgeous piece of ice that had a key hole opening in it. I couldn't believe no one else was shooting it. I got down on my knees, set up my tripod and started shooting. Over the next 20 minutes i went with this piece of ice as the tides played with it. I only had about 20 second to get this shot before the waves hit it again. I snapped a few shots at different focal points for focus stacking and there you have it. It was anything but easy but those are always my favorites.Lighting
The light was good a bit harsh shooting into the sun but i am use to that at this point. I did the finger covering the sun trick for better dynamic range.Equipment
On this one I was using a back-up canon t6? i think. My 5d2 had died during a rainstorm in Ireland the week before. I was using a 2stop nd filter and a gitzo tripodInspiration
I had seen this place a ton of times online as i am sure most have. It is just one of those places you know you have to go. It is an incredible spot. You could spend the day getting 100 different compostions and do it again the next day and so on. I am always looking for arches in nature, so when i saw the ice chamber I got really excited.Editing
Took out some purple tint in the water, dodged the pebbles, water and ice a bit. Burned the sand, curve adjustments and slight orton effect. In my camera bag
When i took this i was using canon. Now i use a nikon d810, nikon 16-35 (I am not a fanboy from any one brand) I like Canon, I like Nikon and Sony. \Whatever works for you USE IT!!! rokinon 14mm 2.8 for astro. I always have a circular polarizer, a few different nd filters, 2stop, 4 stop, 6 stop and 10stop. I don't use grad nd's much anymore. I manually blend now.Feedback
If you make it to jokulsarlon, take a deep breath or 5 and try not to pee yourself. Get there early to explore and always look at both beaches. We took this trip in late september. We were there for 7 days, we had phenomenal weather every day except one. Don't rely on that statement for weather predicting but it was way better weather than i thought it would be.
