Location
This was taken at a little park on post at Fort Campbell, KY. I discovered this little bridge there one day while driving and knew I wanted to use it in a session.Time
This was taken during "golden hour", the hour before sunset. I live for that beautiful golden light that bathes the world during that time of day!Lighting
I wanted the lighting to be golden and beautiful, but not too bright because I also wanted to showcase the lush trees around my daughter during the shoot. I added a little bit of sunflare in Photoshop to enhance the natural light bathing the right side of the frame.Equipment
This picture was taken a few years ago, so I believe this one was shot with a Canon Rebel XS and a Tamron 24-78mm lens. I did not use any additional equipment; I prefer to shoot free-handed and use natural light when possible.Inspiration
I wanted to use this beautiful Dollcake dress I had purchased for my daughter. I wanted to do something that reminded me of a fairytale, and I felt this bridge location with the gorgeous flowering trees was a perfect location. I wanted to showcase the beauty and innocence of being a young girl.Editing
I edited this image using a combination of personal actions to clean up the initial image, as well as several hand-edits to add pops of color and clarity to certain parts of the image.I love the plum tones with the golden light here, paired with the soft pink of my daughter's dress. In my camera bag
These days I shoot with a Canon 6D, a Tamron 24-78mm, and a Sigma 70-300mm.I also carry a speedlight in case there is ever a need for use of a flash.Feedback
I have no advice except for don't be afraid to keep shooting once your subject stops paying attention. In this shot, my daughter was "between" poses and her attention was focused on some children across the park. She wasn't even looking, and wasn't even really posed, but this shot ended up being my favorite of the session. You never know what you might get if you look beyond the pose.
