Location
This photo was taken under a bridge in my hometown (Porsgrunn, near the coast in the southern part of Norway). I try to take an early walk along the river at a daily basis. I find the lightning in the morning magic, and there are always interesting things to photograph. Besides there are few others out early on Sundays. This meant I can concentrate on what I was out to do, and enjoy the silence.Time
This photo was taken on a Sunday morning in August/September 2016 at 8 AM. On this particular day it was a clear blue sky.Lighting
Since this an outdoor photography, and it was a clear blue sky, I took the advantage of the natural light. In general I avoid the use of flash, or other artificial light sources, when photographing outdoors.Equipment
I used Nikon D4 with a Nikon 24-70/2.8 lens. No other equipment was used, or necessary.Inspiration
I love wooden boats. There are unfortunately not many such boats to see anymore. When I discovered this one, I just had to take a photo – or two – both for my own satisfaction and documentation. The lightning was perfect, so there was no need to wait for the right moment, or use a flash. Natural light is usually the best.Editing
My skills in post-processing are limited. Luckily there were, in my opinion, not much to do. I enhanced the reflections, and did a little cropping. In my camera bag
When I leave home I always have two camera bodies with me (Nikon D4 with 24-70 mm/2.8, and Nikon D7200 with Tamron 60 mm/2.0 Macro). Sometimes I also bring Nikon 70-200/2.8, and Sigma 150-600 mm/5-6.3 Sport with me. It depends on what “photo safari” I have planned.Feedback
The best advice I can give is to find a subject one likes, to keep it as simple as possible, to take photos with a different point of view/perspective than others might choose, and use the existing/natural lightning. As for post-processing, there is no golden rule. It´s up to everyone to decide. Some photos need little post-processing, others more. But I think it is important to be as honest as possible the subject. It is, of course, also important to seek inspiration by looking at others´ photos at Viewbug to see how they approach a motive, and to practice, practice, practice…..
