This photo was taken from London Bridge using a long lens.Time
This was taken on Christmas Eve morning 2016. London Bridge is normally very busy with city workers and tourists, but this day was not very busy at all. I had plenty of time to compose my shot from many viewpoints from the bridge. I did not use a tripod but used the edge of the bridge for support. The result was this picture of Tower Bridge with HMS Belfast in the foreground.Lighting
This was a typical London day. The sky was overcast with no structure in the grey mist overhead.Equipment
This image was taken with a Nikon D810. Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS Contemporary Lens. Camera setting f/5.3,1/500,ISO 200. No tripod or flash was used.Inspiration
Viewbug is a fantastic site with a following of mainly American photographers. There are many awesome images of famous American landmarks displayed on members profiles and I just wanted to show what London had to offer. I have a further trip planned to take some more wonderful landmarks the City of London. This should not be too difficult as I live in West London and I am retired.Editing
I take all my photo's in RAW, and I use Photoshop cc 2017 for post-processing.(Photoshop cc and Lightroom come as a bundle using a monthly subscription). I used Nik-Collection (free from Google) as a plug-in to Photoshop to further enhance my image. The Nik Collection is comprised of seven desktop plug-ins that provide a powerful range of photo editing capabilities -- from filter applications that improve colour correction, to retouching and creative effects, to image sharpening that brings out all the hidden details, to the ability to make adjustments to the colour and tonality of images. In my camera bag
In my bag I have my Nikon D810 & D7000. The lenses I carry are:-Sigma 150-600mm and a Nikon 24-70mm, and for my D7000 I have 18-200mm DX, 35mmDX, and a 105mm Macro lens. Speedlight SB-700. I also carry an assortment of spare batteries.Feedback
Maybe I was fortunate that the day was overcast and grey and that there was not too many people about. From my position on London Bridge I was facing east towards Tower Bridge, which had the sun been out would have been facing me. The effect would have been different. Equally if I was taking the photo in the afternoon the sun would have been over my shoulder and the image would have been warmer. A little planning in advance helps, especially checking the weather.
