This photo is a long exposure taken at Abiqua Falls, a relatively unknown falls at the time a out an hour south of Portland, Oregon.Time
I ventured out mid day to just kind of hang out and take some photos. I waited until late afternoon for this shot to keep it darker and give it a moody feel. It was one of those days where it was a little foggy and damp and I wanted to catch it as the fog lifted a bit, but was still present above in the trees.Lighting
I wanted a dark, moody feel. Kind of that Oregon cool, foggy day vibe, but with some contrast with the vibrance of the water.Equipment
This was several years ago and I brought 3 camera bodies with me that day. I used a tripod and filter because even in late afternoon in the winter, it can still be too light for long exposure.Inspiration
I had been there a couple of times and went mid week to make sure I didn’t run into anyone else. I loved that this at the time was just a local secret gem, just a short drive from my house.Editing
Yes, but somewhat minimal. I was pleased with the image out of camera, so there was some processing for color enhancement and sharpening. In my camera bag
Currently a Canon 5DS, and a wide variety of lenses, including a small pinhole lens that doesn’t produce sharp images as a standalone, but is great for multi photo composites. It really gives a dreamy look to long exposures of water features.Feedback
Practice, patience, a tripod and a remote.
