Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the middle of a native prairie field early in the Spring. The naive prairie land has become harder to find as most of the land is now farmed or grazed by cattle.

Time

I remember how beautiful the evening light was on this particular evening. Warm, but early enough in the Spring that there wasn't a lot of bugs biting yet!

Lighting

The warm colours of the sun setting was even more noticeable than usual. I captured this photo only moments before the sun set.

Equipment

I used my Canon 6D along with my 100mm macro lens. No tripod was used as i had to lay flat on the ground resting the camera on my hand to steady it.

Inspiration

I was inspired not only by the beauty of the setting sun but by the brilliant purple crocus. It is a true sign of spring in the prairies when these crocus start to bloom. The beauty of new growth an colour amongst the prairie grass that has been flattened by the long winter conditions.

Editing

I did very little post-processing in this particular photo.

In my camera bag

I always have a camera with me. You just never know when an opportunity will arise. I generally carry my Canon 7D Mark ii along with a wide angle and a zoom lens.

Feedback

Never be afraid to get low and look at things from a different angle. Sometimes it pays to wait just a few minutes for that light to be right where you want it to be.
