I captured this photograph on the campus of North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota. Go Bison!Time
The photo was captured late in the afternoon on a slightly cloudy September day.Lighting
Truly the natural lighting that hour was perfect. I had very even and consistent lighting that gave me the opportunity to open up the aperture to get that dreamy feel.Equipment
Nikon D750, 60mm f2.8, flash was not needed. ISO 200 shot at f/5.6 and 1/500 of a sec.Inspiration
I was fortunate enough to walk by one of the many lovely gardens on NDSU's campus and saw this gorgeous variegated rose. The lighting was perfect and so I took the shot.Editing
Yes, I did crop in Adobe Photoshop and also took care of any blemishes that I felt distracted from the subject. I then brought the photograph into Lightroom and decided it would look best with the coloring in the background to try a creamier tone. I then gave it a slight matte with a color boost. In my camera bag
I always have my Nikon D750 along with three lenses. The three lenses are Nikkor 70-120, Nikkor 70-200 and 60mm micro. One thing I will never forget in my bag is my Lens Pens. Love them!Feedback
Watch for even natural lighting and use a micro lens as wide open for the conditions to get that dreamy bokeh. One more thing, don't be afraid to look at the subject from different angles. It could be as easy as moving over an inch or so to get the desired result. In this case, I used the stems from the bush to slightly frame the flower.
