Love this photo I’m a descendant of Alexander Phimistor Proctor and some of your photographs remind me of his wilderness works.

Thank you. It's amazing how much snow stick sto their faces when they graze in the winter.

I hope that you were using a telephoto lens for this shot of the bison or you were way too close when you took it.

That was 75mm, but I shot from my jeep. It was still a little too close for comfort.

Location
The conservation herd of genetically pure bison at Minneopa state park, just outside of Mankato, Minnesota, is one of my favorite subjects.Time
This was taken in the late afternoon on a snowy Minnesota day.Lighting
A patient photographer that reads the bison herd's movement can find themselves with a front-row seat. Just stay inside your vehicle!Equipment
This was taken with an original Canon 7D and 70-200mm f/2.8L lens.Inspiration
Capturing bison in weather, particularly snow or fog, has been a goal of mine for quite some time. On this day, my schedule, the snowfall, and the bison cooperation all came together.Editing
The image was taken in RAW format, with minimal editing in Lightroom: brightness/contrast, sharpening, etc.In my camera bag
These days, a Canon EOS R6, RP, 15-35mm f/2.8L, 50mm f/1.2L, 100mm f2.8L Macro, and 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L lensFeedback
Patience, planning, and coffee pay off in the end.
