Getting up at 3 AM to not only make the most of the day but to see the sunrise on Mt. Whitney was well worth the lack of sleep and effort. We summited the mountain minutes after sunrise and were treated to a beautifully lit sceene and I was taken by the beauty and calmness of the area, despite the high winds. Photography wasn't the goal for today--it was to hike, but I'm glad I packed my camera and my lightest lens. I was drawn to the way the morning light painted the rocks with its warmth and wanted something better than an iPhone 7 shot.
