I took this photo on a walk with my wife along the Bow River in Calgary.Time
in Autumn it is always turning dark sooner. It was probably only around 5pm and whereas in the summer it can stay light until 10pm, in Fall darkness can descend closer to 4:30.Lighting
While it was pitch dark around 5pm, the city does an excellent job of lighting the bridge so that the darkness is met with a bright bridge for pedestrians and us photographers to enjoy.Equipment
I shot this image hand held with my new Nikon Z6II, taking advantage of the light coming from the bridge to illuminate my subject and add context to the image.Inspiration
The modern bridge and it's web like fabric off endless opportunities for photographers like me. From the outside looking in, each diamond frames its subject so beautifully that when I saw this couple, I had to take their picture.Editing
Most of the processing of this image was done in camera, I only lightened the shadows a bit to show more of the bridge. In my camera bag
I tend to travel fairly light when doing street photography, a spare battery, a flash and depending on the day a travel tripod hooked on to the outside of my camera bag. Only recently have I taken to carrying a sensor cleaner for my camera, just in case.Feedback
The Peace Bridge is a tourist attraction and you can count on regular opportunities to take photographs of either pedestrians out and about on the bridge (many taking selfies) or duck and geese swimming underneath the bridge. My advice, always have your camera at hand!
