Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken just outside my house in Oregon. My home is located right next to a little field that has the most beautiful flowers that bloom in the spring. I was inspired by all the colors and knew I needed to get creative!

Time

I remember this day really well, my gorgeous friend and muse for this photo Eden had come over the week prior to taking this photo so I could dye her hair. ( I like to dabble in hair and makeup here and there! ) We did this super cute split dye look with really vibrant colors. I loved the look and offered to do a little session with her so I could capture some images of her new style. She came back over to my home that next week mid-day and that is when this image was created. I shot this photo at 1:45 pm on June 10th, 2020.

Lighting

Being that we took this photo mid-day I had to play around with angles a bit to get the right look I wanted. This photo was shot from below looking up toward my model and the sky. I wanted to capture the clouds in this photo so I shot this with my model looking down toward me and the sun at my back. I believe it worked well because of the angle we were shooting at so the sun wasn't directly in her eyes.

Equipment

This photo was shot with my Nikon D90 camera and Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D lense

Inspiration

My inspiration for this photo was definitely all of the colors. I am a completely self-taught photographer so I'm constantly trying new things and new concepts. I really wanted to try to capture a POV shot of what the flowers see. I wanted the shot to look as if my model had been picking flowers and was just bending down to grab another.

Editing

This photo didn't take much post-processing. I did up the exposure and the contrast very slightly.

In my camera bag

I do have a little camera bag that I bring with me to every shoot. I like to try to keep as minimal stuff in it as I can because I don't really enjoy hauling it all over my shoots as the majority of my shots are done outdoor. My bag usually consists of my Nikon D-90 camera and Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D lens. I also always carry an extra charged battery so I can switch them out if the battery I'm using dies. In addition to that, I have a cloth and some lens cleaner and a mini umbrella for my camera in case of rain!

Feedback

This photo would be so simple and easy to recreate! If you're interested in capturing something similar I suggest just going for it! It's such a simple yet fun concept! My advice is just to try to be mindful of the model's angle toward the camera. I found that if I was too low it became an unflattering position for my model.
