Location
This picture was taken in Kyiv on the main avenue near Maidan square.Time
It was my first day at the city and I was walking on the main avenue looking at the buildings, the shadows starts to be longer, definetly this picture was taked arround 18:00.Lighting
As I explain previously, the shadow starts to be longer, but the cossack likes the sun, for this reason he was seated on the sun. There are no other light in the picture.Equipment
For this picture I used my compact camera Nikon Coolpix S8100, it's not a professional camera, I know ;) but it takes good pictures as you can see.Inspiration
The inspiration comes to me. He is a magic person of the past history of Ukraine, he was wearing the traditional suit, he was playing the traditional zither, he had the traditional hair cut, and the traditional moustache. I like the traditional things, I like the past and the history and I tried to capture the past at the present thinking on the most recent history of Ukraine.Editing
As you can see I applied some post-processing at this picture, first of all I had to convert it to Black and White. Second, a little bit of reframe and finally apply the correct blacks that I want to transmit. In my camera bag
I have two sets, the first one is for travelling. I use my Nikon D90, my AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED VR and my AF-S Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED VR. And the other set is for closer pictures, and I wear my Nikon D90, my AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED VR and my Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM. And always the Nikon Coolpix S8100 is on the bag.Feedback
My only recommendation is that photographers have to try to immortalize the tradition, tradition is the identifying sign of a country. Some times you can take a good picture, and sometimes you can take THE PICTURE. In this case I think the trick is the black, with the standard black and white you don't have the same strength like with this black.
