Behind The Lens

Location

I clicked this photo at the 'State Botanical Garden Of Georgia' in Athens.

Time

Around 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Lighting

For clicking butterfly shots you need plenty of light so you can use fast shutter speed. Also make sure light is even. If there is not enough light , you can increase your ISO but don't compensate with shutter speed.

Equipment

I used my Sony A390 with Tamron 90mm/2.8 lens. I didn't use any tripod but for people who wants to use tripod make sure the head is loose. This will give you stability and flexibility to move the head quickly.

Inspiration

I love nature shots especially macro. I think butterflies are the most beautiful tiny creatures to photograph.

Editing

Yes for post processing i use lightroom and GIMP. I always click in RAW so i always need some post processing. For this particular shot i didn't do much post processing, just some color balance and tones.

In my camera bag

Now i have following equipments in my bag: 1) Sony A77 mark ii 2) Tamron 90mm/2.8 lens (Macro) 3) Sigma 70-300mm (telephoto) 4) Tokina 11-16mm (wide angle) 5) Tamron 55-200mm 6) 2x teleconverter, some filters. 7) Vanguard Tripod

Feedback

For clicking similar shot (or butterflies), i would like to give following tips: 1) Always wait for the butterflies, never run after them. If you sit patiently for 10-15 mins they might come very near to you. 2) As i've mentioned above always use fast shutter speed. If light is low , compensate with high ISO. 3) Make sure there are no shadows and also you are not casting any shadow on the butterfly.
