I love this photo for the story it tells. For me there's a perfect balance between the shadow on the building and light on the woman. I immediately empathised with this lady - her weariness but determination, the quiet strength and yet apparent difficulties of her life. The cats at the wheelbarrow make such an everyday life statement and finish the photo and story so well. Right place, right time all right!

Beautiful! I love how it shows the art in our everyday existence...the beauty in just being.

Location
This photo was taken in Lonjsko polje, Croatia. This is an area with a few very remote villages and surrounding marshy nature is natural reserve for many birds, especially storks. You can still find old painted wooden houses. The whole area looks like stopped back in time some fifty years ago.Time
Probably in the afternoon. I was wandering around, looking for a place where birds will come later in the afternoon, so that I'll be prepared to take photos.Lighting
The day was sunny, but the light was not sharp, because there was relatively high level of water vapor in the atmosphere.Equipment
This was shot with Nikon D5100 and Tamron 70-200mm, f2.8 lens. I had this lens on my gear because I intended to take photos of a birds.Inspiration
While wandering around I saw an old wooden house with cats and chickens staying on the front door and since the whole scene was kind a funny and pitoresque I took advantage of telephoto lens to take some shots from relative distance, not to scary animals away. There is another picture I posted on ViewBug with this scene. And while I was messing around with different angles to get the most of the scene, I saw this old lady coming on the way to the house. Usually I ask people for permission to take a picture, but this old lady was somehow so deep in her own world, that she didn't even noticed me. Her remotness, the wheelbarrow filled with grass, the animals around her and the mess around the old house, seems so "on spot" and perfectly balanced, that I didn't waist time changing telephoto lens to something more appropriate (like 35mm or 50mm) and just made a few shots with lens on 70mm.Editing
In postprocessing I add some sharpness, contrast and clarity in Camera Raw, but no major changes were done. The image wasn't cropped. In my camera bag
Since I'm not really specialized in only one genre of photography, I usually have 35mm, f1.8 prime lens on my Nikon's body and 10-20mm wide lens and some telephoto like 70-200mm lens in my bag.Feedback
I would say, there are two types of photos: one, where you plan as much as possible and have clear idea in advance what you want to do, and others, where you happen to be on the right place at the right time. So even if you're "in a mission" for something specific, have your eyes open and be prepared for unexpected.
