Location
This photo was taken at a studio in downtown Winnipeg, Canada.Time
This was shot mid-day with the windows covered so I had full control of the lighting.Lighting
3 exposures were taken with the intention of composting them together to give a fuller look of the garment.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 24-105 f4, tripod, and one Elinchrom D-Lite strobe with medium silver beauty dish overhead.Inspiration
I always loved seeing painterly looking photos and wanted to experiment and create something of my own. My friend who is a designer works with me a lot and we couldn't get the look we wanted, so we simplified things by just using several pieces of fabric thrown into the air with the help of several assistants. We got what we wanted.Editing
I composited 3 exposures to get the look I wanted from the garment, darkened the backdrop, skin retouching and finalized it with some color grading. In my camera bag
Canon 5D Mark II x2, Canon 24-105, Canon 70-200, Canon 100 macro, Canon 85, Pocketwizards, batteries, lens and sensor cleaner, business cards, GoPro, small reflector, X-Rite colorchecker passport, CF cards.Feedback
Don't be afraid to experiment and have fun. Play around with lighting and poses until you get what you like. Don't rush because you feel pressured. Take your time and get it right! Don't spend all your time thinking about your camera settings - the most important part is getting the expression and pose you want from your model.
