Location
Below the Golden Gate Bridge at sundown-Dusk. San FrancicoTime
This is just after sundown.Lighting
The sky has so much color in the first hour or so after sundown that a long exposure can sometimes capture the saturation of color even when it seems dark to the eyes.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark II with 16-35mm f2.8 wide open. This is approx a 15 second exposure at f22. I also flashed my strobe while the shudder was open a couple times to highlight the chain. Shot on a tripod. Shudder release cable used.Inspiration
The massive chain leads the eyes into the majestic, iconic lines of the bridge. It is breathtaking to see in person. The lines seem to embrace the busy ocean.Editing
I had to burn some of the sky down and open the shadows a bit to balance the light. In my camera bag
I carry a Canon 5D Mark II and 3 lenses; 70-200 f2.8, and 24-105mm, and my favorite the Canon 16-35mm f2.8 as well as a few flex reflectors and a strobeFeedback
First select lighting situations that are not too diverse..dusk is great! Tripod and quick release clamp is essential. I hold my strobe in my hand and 'pop' a burst or two to bring out the detail of darker areas. Shutter release cable insures a better chance of not jarring the camera during the long exposures.
