Location
The Wedge in Newport Beach, California. The rider is Kurt Suhr-Time
It was about 10amLighting
It was very harsh and the mist from the 20-30 foot waves crashing was throwing off the auto focus.Equipment
I used my Nikon D5200 and Sigma 120-400mm on a Mefoto tripodInspiration
The waves were huge during Hurricane Marie and I knew the Wedge would be going off. I also knew there would hundreds of other photographers there as well but it was worth the hassle of parking miles away and biking in. I love the ocean and nature and the raw power it has and it's never more evident during storms or what storms cause.Editing
Yes a lot because of the time of day I had to do a lot of adjusting in Lightroom. Color, Saturation, clarity and brushing areas to bring the photo back to what I saw.In my camera bag
Nikon D750, Nikon 50mm f1.4, Nikon 14-24mm f2.8, Sigma 120-400mm f5.6, various filters (ND, polarizer, GND) remote release, extra batteries, cleaning kit, snacks, Mefoto tripod all packed in a Lowpro backpack.Feedback
Yes use a polarizing filter and set your focus to 1 point and do your best to follow the subject with that focus point and set the camera to re-focus as you shoot the sequence. Watch waves and splashes in front of the subject that may catch your auto focus and get the angle so you have the the subject or wave in the first third of the composition so the eye has somewhere to go. The viewer can see where the wave or person may go. Have fun! Thanks for stopping by-
