Location
This was taken in my hometown of Ennis. it was Sunday, the street was almost deserted, i had my camera, ready to capture anything that might catch my eye. She did!Time
It was late evening. I had taken a lot of photos then, the light wasnt perfect, but there seemed to be a shadow on the window as I passed. It was a spur of the moment, it had to be monochrome, a film noir moment.Lighting
It was evening, light was dimming, this helped me create a more dramatic effect. I didn't use a lot of post processing, except for cropping the edges a little, the focus had to be on the mannequin, her cold almost threatening expression, daring me to take that photo.Equipment
I had a basic Fuji film camera, not a very expensive one, it had been given to me as a gift that summer. I was in the right place at the right time, it wasn't the camera, it was just me. Any camera would have captured this.Inspiration
There was something about the way she was staring out onto the street, almost human like, and for some reason seemed unhappy to be there, as if everyone had gone home and she had been left alone. I wanted to capture this, to connect, to tell her story.Editing
From what i can remember, I cropped the image to focus on the mannequin. And to see it simply as a black and white image with a timeless effect. I try and limit the changes in the post processing because it takes too much from the original, unless the original is not adequate or needs changes. There is an element of luck in it too.!In my camera bag
I now have a Nikon D5000, 18 to 55mm lens, 55 to 200mm lens, tripod.Feedback
Shoot what catches your eye, your attention. Take many shots, from different angles. Spontaneity is key, that way, you will have some good, some very good shots. I am still learning.!
