Did you use a filter for the rainbow or was this a double rainbow? This photo is awesome.

Thank you! A little photoshop, no filter. It was five images stitched together. I was just very lucky to be there at that moment!

In my humble opinion this image would be truly absolutely fabulous if only the saturation was turned down. Please post a reworked image. Thank you

That's what we call Vertigo rain. It epavorates before it hits the ground and if you have some elevation it can make for some stunning points of view. Awesome photo Awesome gallery.

Location
This photograph was taken at Monument Valley on the Arizona - Utah border. It was part of a week long trip to northern Arizona, that began in Page, Arizona and ended at the Grand Canyon.Time
I had been to Monument Valley a few times & was planning to return at the end of the day to the location this photograph was taken. It was a crazy weather day raining on and off. When I returned to take the photograph, it was just before sunset in time to set up the tripod. This photograph was taken at 6:50 PM & is composed of five photographs stitched together.Lighting
The lighting was amazing. All day long it was raining on and off. There were rainbows appearing randomly and then the sun would come out. When I went to take the photograph, a double rainbow appeared. It was raining in part of the photograph. I had not experienced light like this. It was a once in a life time experience.Equipment
I am in the camera business and had just become a Leica dealer. For this trip I was able to borrow the Leica S2 medium format camera, 3 Leica lenses: 35mm Summarit-S, 75mm Summarit-S and the 120mm Summarit-S Macro. I used my Giottos Carbon Fiber, Tripod MT8260, an Acratech Panorama Head and an Acratech Leveling Base.Inspiration
I had been to Monument valley a few times before & was planning to return to that location to take a photograph at sunset. When I saw the double rainbow, rain and sunset all at the same time I was amazed. I realized my widest lens wouldn't cover the scene and needed to set up the camera for a panorama. I set the camera to a vertical position on the tripod and was able to do a panorama of five photographs enabling me to include the entire double rainbow. The photograph was taken at the end of August and there were many tourists hanging around the rocks in the foreground. My wife asked the tourists to move so I could take the photograph and I was able to take the photograph.Editing
Since this photograph was a panorama composed of five photographs, stitching was done in Photoshop. Also Photoshop was used to enhance the colors a bit. I have been a long time believer in the Ansel Adams line "the negative is the score and the print is the performance". I also believe this applies to digital files. After many years of darkroom printing, I applied what I learned in the darkroom. Using this knowledge, in Photoshop, allowed me to make the photograph what I saw in my mind.In my camera bag
All my equipment fits in an f.64 Large Backpack. A Leica S2P medium format camera, four Leica lenses: 35mm Summarit-S, 70mm Summarit-S, 120mm Macro-Summarit-S and a 180mm APO-Elmar-S. A Giotttos Carbon Fiber tripod MT8260 and an Arca Swiss Cube 1 tripod head.Feedback
Be prepared for the unexpected. For this photograph I did not have a lens wide enough to cover the scene. I had been thinking about doing a few panoramas during this trip and had a panorama head. I now have an Arca Swiss Cube 1 as my normal head due the the weight of the camera. Having a panorama head as my normal tripod head I am prepared for scenes that cover more than my widest lens. After many years of using a view camera I use a tripod for my landscape photographs so I can carefully set up and compose my photographs. Also, know your equipment.
