Sometimes I see a photo that makes me re-think everything about my own photography. This is one of those photos. I'm just knocked out by this.

Location
The Photo was taken on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong, China. This building is one of the countless high skyscrapers. From my point of View the best spot for this photo was right in the middle of the backyard. Everybody who was already in China knows, that most of the civil live takes place there. So you have to imagine me lying at the ground on my back, tripod with camera somehow on top of me, trying to get a shot straight. I remember at least 5 Chinese guys, getting a hair cut right on the yard, staring at me. And if you think it can’t get worth – I ensure you – it can. I was wondering the whole time what that terrible smell might come from, until a dog was peeing just next to me at the ground. But from my point of view – it was totally worth it.Time
The photo was taken in the early evening to get some light from the windows but not too much contrast to the sky. Especially the higher building at the right sight needs some daylight. Otherwise you just see the light from the windows.Lighting
Is it just natural sunset lighting. Due to the humidity in Hongkong there are almost no real sunsets but you still get the nice red color at the sky.Equipment
I used a tripod, my Canon 5D Mark III and a Canon 16-35mm II at 16mm. I'm wondering how that shot might look like with the new 11-24mm lens - but 16mm was already very impressive.Inspiration
I love in general the perspective to shot shot straight up. This perspective we are not really use with our eyes, and combined with ultra wide angle lenses you get something totally new. I'm living in Hamburg, Germany and there is a very famous yard for this perspective. As I tried this shot several times, I started to get the exact shot all over the world. And which city could be more perfect that Hong Kong for this? To find these spots in the City I use just google maps.Editing
There was not too much post processing at this picture. Just some color adjustment and a bit sharpening. In my camera bag
As I was at a business trip I had to reduce my equipment. At the very end I just had a shoulder bag from ThinkTankPhoto, my 5D III with the 16-35mm and a tripod.Feedback
As I described on top, to get the widest angle, you have to lie on the ground. I know this can be out of your comfort zone, especially at this place with all that smell, but it is worth it. If you have just a tripod on the ground you can't adjust the perspective good enough. Of cause, you could use a water bubble but as the building and especially the yard are not straight you will not get the perfect symmetry. But for these kind of pictures a very good symmetry is one of the key factors.
