This image was taken in Bullhead City in a secluded desert area.Time
This is the golden hour. Around 4:30 PM in the early spring as that's when the desert blooms these beautiful yellow flowers.Lighting
I'm an all self-taught photographer, I practice shooting just about everything, playing with light, playing with shadows. The day I decided I want to do this was on such a whim. I called my model and asked if she was busy after work. We thought hard on wardrobe and how she should do her hair. I decided I wanted a more fair look to try and not distract from the flowers and the sunset. I wanted it to all tie in together. I didn't want one element overpowering the other.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark III paired with the L series 70-200mm All natural lighting.Inspiration
The flowers that we get in the desert are so short lived. I wanted to show the desert in bloom as I love it!Editing
Just basic retouching of lighting. In my camera bag

The golden hour is an amazing time of day. You can get the golden hour affects at dusk and dawn. My best advice is to watch the sun, see where it is at what time of day the colors you get from that time of day make notes of it. That way you can manage the lighting you will have at certain times of the day. Light is the biggest factor in photography. Have fun and play with it!
