I took this photo in the Berlengas archipelago, just in front of my hometown, Peniche, Portugal. This Straight, this path, is the one we take every day going from the small dock to the St John the Baptist fort, you can see in the middle of the image. Berlenga is the major island of the archipelago and the only us allowed to visit during summer. During the winter only some fishermen and the lighthouse keepers are allowed. This is "my" paradise for shooting and fishing.

As I shoot many of my images within a few miles of my home ( on an island) I appreciate the personal connection one can have with a familiar landscape, a friend, a part of oneself.

When i took this photo it the sunset was beginning. the clouds started to turn orange and there was a line of light between the two rocks in front of me while the ocean in front of the pier (below me) was becoming dark. when i saw it i took a bunch of long exposures in order to smooth the sea and highlight the light path.Equipment
In this photo i used my Canon 6D, with Canon 24-70L F4 @ 44mm. I used my Gitzo tripod, two filters from Formatt (10 Stops Firecrest and 3 Stops Grad. Also a remote shutter, the Canon TC-80N3 for a 8sec exposure @ F11Inspiration
I do get inspired by this island, i usually call "my rock". Since a little kid i was fortunate enough to spend almost my whole summers there, as my parent just loved to be there. It is also my place to fish, to spend the summer nights with the Milky Way and drinking with friends. When i first saw this photo at home and saw the path of light, remembered the "million" times i took this path, by boat from the pier to St John the Baptist fort (you can see a small portion if it in the middle of the photo on the right side), and also the path we usually took to visit the caves or to go behind the island to go fishing. This island is part of mi life, it is part of me. And still inspires me every time I'm there.Editing
When I saw this photo I realized that the best way to get it right was doing a monochromatic. Just treated this photo in Lightroom for small adjustments and in Photoshop gave it contrast and sharpness. Finally converted in BW with Nik Silver Efex Pro.In my camera bag
In my Lowepro bag I have a Canon 6D and 50D. The Canon 24-70L F4, the Canon 70-200L USM F4, The Samyang 14mm 2.8, Formatt Filters and Holder, two remotes, a Canon TC-80N3 and a wireless Phottix Aion, Cleaning kit, a level, Circular PL filters, UV filters, a flashlight, loads of Zeiss lens wipes and extra batteries for everything.Feedback
Well, the Berlengas island, is quite small, but also quite unique for Photography. You can do wildlife photography, especially on marine birds, and of course landscape. There so many rocks, so many views that you'll need to spend a few days just to take a taste on the island. Also, as there's not light pollution, especially when lights go down at 1am, you can take wonderful photos on the milky way or the lighthouse. For this kind of photos, a big passion of mine, you just need patient, coordination and just wait for that right moment. The light will provide the rest.
