This photo was taken in my home studio in Adelaide, South Australia. It's a composite of a couple of images taken at the same time, and it was a lot of fun getting out in the studio with the kids for this shoot.Time
This photoshoot was in the middle of the day, making use of the soft natural light that is available in my studio.Lighting
I used a combination of natural light (from a big bank of windows to the left) and a jinbei continuous light with a big soft ball diffuser to add some fill light on the right.Equipment
Equipment used for this was my Nikon d750 and sigma art 35mm f1.4 lens. A jinbei continuos light. A large white backdrop (laid out on the floor which I taped the boy to), a ladder to get up high to shoot from straight overhead and lots of gaffa tape.Inspiration
I had seen a similar photo from another photographer and showed my kids, they were super keen to give it a try themselves (usually they are not that keen to pose for photos for me). This suits them perfectlyEditing
I always process my photos with a combination of Lightroom and Photoshop. This has obviously had some photoshop work done as it is a composite image. I needed to extend the background wall and floor that the girl was sitting on to allow for enough space to composite the boy onto the wall behind in this image. In my camera bag
What's in my bag will depend on what I'm shooting, as I cover a wide range of genres. Anything from a 14mm f2.8 for Astro through to a 150-600mm for nature/wildlife. In between I mainly use a Nikon 16-35mm for landscapes combined with NiSi filters. A 24mm tilt-shift for architecture. For portraits I have a 35mm and 50mm f1.4 and also use a 70-200mm f2.8. For macro work I have a 105mm macro. All interchangeable on my Nikon d750Feedback
When working on a composite image pay attention to the direction and quality of light between your images, and try to keep it the same between each image.
