I took the photo on a pretty unique day in late March. Heavy Snowfall is quite rare in Virginia, USA so when 6 inches of snow fell upon us with spring around the corner i knew i needed to get to my closest national park. Once conditions were drivable, i made my way to Shenandoah NP, but due to icy conditions skyline drive, the main drag of road through the park, was closed. This presented a new opportunity for me to backpack right down the middle of the road.Time
This was in the late afternoon, around 4pm.Lighting
I used no form of artificial light for this capture, although, cloud cover acted as a soft box giving me near perfect lighting for minimal editing.Equipment
I used my go-to all-around camera, the Nikon D500 with a 16-80 f/2.8 lens.Inspiration
Nature divided by man, especially with symmetry, comes across as visually pleasing to me.Editing
I mostly deepened shadows and evenly boosted blue tones! In my camera bag
i'll typically carry my all-around rig as stated above, as well as a sony a7iii with a 12-14 f/1-4 lens. For non-capture equipment, i carry multiple sd cards, portable SSDs, and batteries of course. I only carry a tripod on camping trips, when backpacking and hiking i typically will not.Feedback
Just get out there! I can say that (likely) the most compelling photographs in the world were taken without total intention. You can strive to go out and shoot but nobody knows what one will actually come across. This planet is an ever changing canvas, you just have to be there to capture the highlights.
