Location
This photo was taken in my backyard underneath a pigmy palm. There were quite a few honey bees collecting nectar from numerous flowers in that location.Time
This photo was taken on November 16th, 2019 on a beautiful cloudy afternoon.Lighting
It was really important for my to find the perfect angle in order to capture light in the bees eye. I first focused on the point where the sun was located in the sky and looked for a bee positioned in the right area.Equipment
I carry my Canon T6 along with my 50mm 1.8F, 75mm 1.4 F, and my attachable macro lens for my iPhone.Inspiration
Animals have always been a huge thing in my life and I’ve always found honey bees to be extremely captivating with all their unique abilities. When I saw them traveling to and from the flowers I knew it was the perfect opportunity to capture them in their element.Editing
Because this photo was taken on my iPhone there are not many things that I get to specifically control such as the iso, aperture, and shutter speed. So when it came to post-processing I really had to focus on making the bee really stand out around the bright flowers. I started with adding some exposure to brighten the photo up a bit then went on to creating some contrast between the bee and it’s surroundings. Lastly, I desaturated the photo a bit to create more of a serene look to the photo. In my camera bag
I usually use my trusty Canon EOS T6 with one of two lenses. I carry my 50mm 1.8f lens and my 75-300mm lens. On occasions I will grab my attachable macro lens for my iPhone when opportunities arise.Feedback
When capturing any type of animal it’s important to capture light in their eyes. It’s also nice to capture them in their own habitat in order to really bring out the essence of the animal.
