This photo was taken in Cape May, NJ. My wife and I went to down to the beach for sunset only to watch this crazy storm roll in. Everyone was running for cover but we stayed, mesmerized by the lightning.Time
We had set out to watch the sunset but stayed way past that just watching the storm. I struggle with night shots so this was a great learning experience for me. I believe we stayed until 9pm, I was just taking a series of long exposures and marveling at the light show!Lighting
The Lightning was so amazing, although not advisable, a crowd had gathered on the beach to watch, you can see them by the Lifeguard stand in the foreground. I was astounded that the lightning was all around us but not near where we were shooting from, so I just continued snapping.Equipment
This shot was taken on a Canon T1i, the Lens was a Tamron 18 - 300 mm and I used a lightweight Manfrotto Tripod.Inspiration
I always love chasing Sunsets in Cape May, NJ. There is a spot at the end of Beach St where you can view the Cape May Lighthouse and see the sun set. In fact, all along the beach in Cape May, you can view the Sun rise and the Sun Set, it is a unique spot. The Sunsets and Sunrises never disappoint, it's just a great spot on the Jersey Shore.Editing
No post processing was used, the shot was great right out of the box!In my camera bag
The main piece of equipment I carry is a Canon 70D, I'm still learning the in's and out's but I love it so far. I still have my Canon T1i, still viable. My main lens is a Tamron 18-300 mm, such a versatile lens, its so useful that I fail to pull out my other lens on occasion. I also carry a Canon 10-22 mm 3.5, great for those wide angles. Lastly I have a Canon 50 mm prime, 1.4, also a great lens but unfortunately the Tamron lens is so useful, the 50mm doesn't come out to often sorry to say! And I have just added a Canon 150 - 600 mm lens, that is a lot of fun!!Feedback
The southern tip of Cape May is so unique, as I mentioned you can see the Sun rise and Sun set on the same beach, aside from being one of the most beautiful spots on the Jersey Shore, the scene's captured around there are truly remarkable. It's Exit 0 on the NJ Parkway, well worth the trip to explore the town, plenty of old Victorian's, great shopping and dinning, plus scenery galore. I Hope you experience a little lightning if you visit, that was such a bonus!
