Isn’t it funny how we see images online and decide to spontaneously visit the place, without researching and learning more about the surrounding area or its history? During one of my visits to this remote place near the Arizona boarder, I came across a gentleman from Eastern Europe that was stranded for hours.

He barely spoke English so communication was limited. His SUV was buried up to his bumper in deep sand. As I dug his vehicle out and pulled it free with my truck, I thought to myself, this is just crazy to be out here alone and not knowing anything about the area.

I asked him what he was doing out there. He said he was visiting the Grand Canyon, but had seen photos of Vermillion Cliffs online, then looked for a pin on google maps, and went for it. Let this be a lesson to everyone searching for that next big location to post on social media. Research, plan, study, and most importantly, respect the land.
