This is one of my personal favorite photos, for many reasons. The experience of being alone in this place and the peaceful feeling of being far away from the commotion of crowded destinations.

As I was shooting another subject a few hundred feet away, pointing in the opposite direction, I happened to look back around me and spotted this small area where all the elements were aligned. The clouds mimicked the horizontal striations in the layers of the soil. A iridescent glow of the sun softly illuminated the top of the formations. The recent erosion that washed lighter soil down into the dark ash-like soil in the foreground, that leads your eye right back up into the photograph.
