Far from Antelope Canyon (aka ‘Not Antelope’) and deep inside Utah’s labyrinth of steep-walled canyons is a savage stretch of land crisscrossed with hidden ravines, known as Robbers Roost. In the 1880’s, outlaws like Butch Cassidy, Sundance Kid and the Wild Bunch evaded law enforcement and hid-out in this inhospitable terrain, waiting for the heat to settle from their latest bank robberies. The Roost afforded hundreds of hiding spots and was difficult to penetrate.
Whenever I visit this area, I can’t help but think of the history and the stories that were told in the area. The mysteries it holds, and the lives that were lived in such lawless times.
