Finally getting around to the backlog of photos captured this past summer. I remember this particular day being blistering hot, pushing temps around around 100º-105ºF, with full sun exposure and very little clouds for relief. My wife (bless her heart) stayed back with the girls and took refuge in the truck. It was simply too hot for them to join on this one.
My strategy was quick and light, in and out. I didn’t want them waiting to long, so I went in with the bare essentials. Took out all the unnecessary camera equipment from my pack, opted for a single wide angle lens, my backpacking tripod, and 3 liters of water.
Then decided to jog as much as I could. I kid you not, I’m not in running shape whatsoever. A mile in and I was dying! Haha. I remember hugging the side of the dry wash when there were cliffs close and high enough to provide just a few seconds of relief from the sun. Guzzling down the water, I finally arrived at these magnificent hoodoos, only to realize that the return journey was still at my feet. Was it worth it? You tell me.

Yes your trip for this photograph was definately worth it. As a viewer I'm always on the lookout for something different. Your description of your trek helps people understand what you endured for this fabulous shot. Also by writing and describing your adventures, it helps to retain in your memory forever. You'll have some lovely memoirs to pass on to your children. I love reading all your descriptions, words can be very meaningful.
